The sources said there is evidence indicating that the leader of Al Qaeda or their associates have entered into discussions or planning for a possible attack on trains in the U.S. on September 11, 2011.
"We have no information about any imminent terrorist threat to the U.S. rail industry, but we wanted our partners would be aware of the alleged plots. It is not clear if any new plan has been held since February last year," said a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security, Matthew Chandler.
The department and other government agencies have analyzed information gathered at the home of bin Laden in Pakistan , raided earlier this week during the military action that killed the Saudi militant.
The information indicated that one possible tactic to attack a train was trying, somehow, get it out of the rails, said an official.
Another source said that Al Qaeda in February of last year, already was considering an attack on the railway system on the 10th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon, but the group did not agree as to the exact date .
