Flanked by representatives from co-hosts Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, Italy’s Foreign Minister Franco Frattini says the Contact Group on Libya has taken solid steps forward following its second meeting, and that it is united in its aim of toppling Muammar Gaddafi.
“The UN confirmed today via its special representative it is determined to co-ordinate efforts to try and obtain a ceasefire as quickly as possible and launch a clear political process,” he said.
The next meeting will be in Abu Dhabi, by which time the Contact Group hopes for more tangible progress on the ground.
