Brasilia, May 27 (EFE) .- The prosecutor said on Friday the opening of an investigation into the assets of the Chief Minister's Office, Antonio Palocci, whose assets grew 20 times in the last four years, where he was a member and consultant.
The minister is under fire from the opposition, which raised suspicions of influence peddling and requires explanations of the money that Palocci said to have earned as a business consultant from 2006 to 2010.
Palocci, who was finance minister during the government of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is one of the strongmen in the office of president Rousseff, who on Thursday defended and guaranteed that there is some irregularity in their activities.
However, the prosecutor believes the case should be investigated, due to the fact that the minister has not offered an explanation to society.
"Although the press has reported significant growth in assets of the defendant were not made public justifications that allow the compatibility of services with voluminous amounts received," said a statement issued on Friday by the prosecutor, Roberto Gurgel.
According to press reports, during 2010, when in addition to exerting an office of member coordinated the campaign that led to power Dilma, Palocci kept the design consulting firm, which opened in 2006 and that only between June and November last year earned about $ 20 million.
The opposition, which wants to open an investigation into the case in Congress, wants to know, among other things, what are the companies that were clients of Palocci therefore suspected that many of them worked or work directly with the government.
Spokesmen for the project asserted that it is "impossible" because their contracts are included in "confidentiality clauses" that prevent disclose certain information, such as customer names.
However, the company could now be forced to disclose that information to prosecutors because of the investigation given by the Attorney General's Office.Antonio Palocci
Palocci was minister of Lula's government from January 2003 until March 2006, when he resigned due to a corruption scandal in which came to be processed and was eventually found innocent.
In a statement issued last week to explain the activities of his company, Palocci said the minister was supposed to experience an aggregate value in his consulting work.
"In the capital market and other sectors, the passage by the Ministry of Finance, Central Bank, or BNDES provides a unique experience that gives tremendous value to these professionals," said Palocci, which ensured that his company does not work as consulting since the end of 2010 and is now solely dedicated to managing its assets.
